Australia is at a defining moment. Semiconductors power the technologies Australians rely on every day — from smartphones and cars to medical devices, communications systems and renewable energy infrastructure. They are also critical to our defence capabilities and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum.
Australia has no coordinated national plan to guide capability development or future resilience. For the first time, that is changing. S3B is leading the development of Australia’s first National Semiconductor Roadmap: a 15 year strategic plan built on evidence, national input and clear recommendations to guide policy, investment, and capability development
As Australia’s industry hub for semiconductors, S3B is responding directly to a clear call to action across the broader ecosystem for coordinated national leadership. The Roadmap will help ensure Australia is better positioned for long-term competitiveness, economic resilience, and sovereign capability.
This is Australia’s opportunity to set a shared direction and move from fragmentation to coordination, from vulnerability to resilience, and from potential to action.

From engagement to launch
The Roadmap will be developed through a series of phases across 2026, and is expected to be released in October 2026.
A Strategic Advisory Group has been established to support the Roadmap’s development. The Advisory Group provides strategic guidance and expert insight to shape the project’s direction and priorities, support national alignment, and strengthen engagement by connecting the project with broader ecosystem networks.
